PADI INSTRUCTION

EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE®(EFR) Primary & Secondary care training

Emergency First Response training focuses on building confidence in lay rescuers and increasing their willingness to respond when faced with a medical emergency. All courses are supported by self-study manuals, videos, and quick reference cards to enhance learning and allow you start learning right away.

This course teaches you the steps and techniques for handling life-threatening emergencies. You’ll practice eight skills for aiding patients who aren’t breathing, have no heartbeat, may have a spinal injury, may be in shock or who may have serious bleeding. You’ll learn to how to perform CPR and continue to monitor the patient, so that you provide every possible chance of survival while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. Because many medical conditions are not life-threatening and emergency medical services are sometimes delayed or unavailable, this course teaches you how to provide first aid that eases pain and reduces the risk of further harm. You’ll learn to assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting.

Emergency First Response® – refresher

It’s a good idea to refresh your CPR and first aid skills every 24 months, and that’s what the EFR Refresher course is designed to do. Focusing on key skills, the course allows you to stay up-to-date and ready to lend aid when needed.

Emergency First Response® – CPR & AED

Gain the skills and confidence to save the life of someone you care about. This course focuses on CPR training and teaching participants how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). When workplace or governmental requirements specify this training, the CPR & AED course meets the need. This course is often integrated into First Aid at Work programs.

After completing the Emergency First Response CPR & AED course, you’ll know how to aid someone who may be experiencing cardiac arrest with an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator), or by providing traditional or hands-only CPR.


What to Expect:

There are two parts to the CPR & AED Certification course:

    • Register for the self-paced CPR & AED eLearning online
    • Contact us to set up your in-person instruction. Learn nine essential skills for helping others in an emergency including how to use an AED on adults and children and how to help someone who is choking. Get hands-on experience administering CPR using adult, child and infant mannequins. Practice your new skills in role-playing scenarios. (In-person instruction time, 4-6 hours)

 

 

EMERGENCY OXYGEN PROVIDER

Immediately recognize scuba diving illnesses treatable with emergency oxygen and be prepared to offer aid. There are no prerequisites or age restrictions. This course is open to everyone.

Knowing how and when to use emergency oxygen is a great skill to have and means you’re ready to help others should the need arise. Becoming a PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider lets you breathe easy knowing that you can recognize scuba diving illnesses treatable with emergency oxygen, and are prepared to offer aid.

You’ll learn about dive injuries, different types of emergency oxygen equipment and safety considerations when using oxygen. Then you’ll practice:

  • Assembling and disassembling emergency oxygen equipment.
  • Deploying a non-rebreather mask and a demand inhalator valve on a breathing diver.
  • Using a pocket mask on a nonbreathing diver.


What to Expect:

There are two parts to the Emergency Oxygen Provider course:

  • Register for the self-paced Emergency Oxygen Provider eLearning online
  • Contact us to set up your in-person instruction. You’ll practice assembling and disassembling oxygen equipment for a quick response in an emergency. Your instructor will teach you how to deploy a non-rebreather mask and a demand inhalator valve on a breathing diver. You’ll also learn how to attach a rescue breathing mask to an oxygen unit to resuscitate a non-breathing diver. (In-person instruction time, 1 day)

 

 

Emergency First Response® – Care for Children

This course allows participants to learn, practice and apply emergency care skills specific to helping infants and children with medical emergencies. It’s designed for those who work with children or are likely to have to respond to emergencies involving youngsters. This course is often integrated with Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses.

Get the skills you need to confidently identify and respond to the most common childhood injuries and illnesses. Provide care that reduces the risk of further harm and gain valuable insights into the emotional aspects of caring for children.

There are two parts to the EFR Care for Children course:

  • Register for the self-paced EFR Care for Children eLearning online
  • Contact us to set up your in-person instruction. Get hands-on experience providing CPR to newborns, infants and children using training mannequins. Learn how to manage serious bleeding, a spinal injury, choking situations and other common childhood emergencies. Practice your new skills in role-playing scenarios and learn what your family should have in a first aid kit. (In-person instruction time, 8-12 hours)

 

 

 

EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE INSTRUCTOR

Teach skills based on internationally recognized emergency care guidelines and learn how to present course content while encouraging student self-discovery.

CPR and first aid are key skills that are important to everyone, not just scuba divers. As an Emergency First Response Instructor, you teach skills based on internationally recognized emergency care guidelines, and you can offer courses to anyone. The great thing about EFR courses is they make learning easy by providing a comfortable environment to practice emergency care skills. Your students finish the course feeling confident with their new skills and ready to help someone in need.



What to Expect:

Your role as an EFR Instructor is to be a coach who creates a positive learning environment. Along with learning how to structure and organize EFR courses, you practice:

  • Presenting course content.
  • Encouraging self-discovery in students.
  • Evaluating student understanding and skill mastery during hands-on skills practice.
  • Managing effective scenario-based learning experiences.
